Textural analysis of The Matrix Reloaded

To make our film opening well, we will have to look at existing films in order to work out what we need to do for our film we will analyse the opening 2 minutes to "The Matrix Reloaded" which is a film to the same genre as ours;

1)      The first scene you see is a black screen with green neon symbols drizzling down the screen in a vertical line, the symbols appear in different places with many symbols appearing. The music gets louder as the symbols appear and this sounds like it comes from a musical instrument that you blow into.

2)      The next scene is the symbols which appear get more and more gradual as more appear in vertical lines and these symbols are picked out in a horizontal line and spell “The Matrix” this is still in the same neon green colour but they are letters and not symbols. Then the “The Matrix” comes into the screen and behind that is the word “Reloaded” this is still in the symbols and the music gets louder and quieter (still from the same instrument).

3)      The green symbols get faster and faster moving up and down the screen but they turn to almost appear they are coming out of the camera and towards a green circle in the centre of the screen, the music is gradually getting louder.

4)      The circle in the middle of the screen gets bigger and the circle appears to be in the centre of some galaxy, like the Milky Way, the music is louder and appears more instruments have joined this single instrument.

5)      As the camera zooms out from the galaxy more and more galaxies pass the screen getting faster and faster passed the screen, this in the ends forms into one of the symbols from the start of the screen. The music has turned into a choir together producing an echo sound.

6)      The next scene the camera zooms out and more and more symbols pass the screen flying all over the screen in different positions, the music is still the same then before but hundreds of symbols are flying over the screen.

7)      The next scene the symbols are formed to make some tower like structure with the symbols interlocking with each other, this appears to be like the Empire state building, in the background many other symbols appear to be forming some structures from the symbols. The music is still the same.

8)      Carrying on from the scene before the symbols appear to be turning into cogs and there has been a base floor formed from these symbols, the music is still the same then before and the camera is orbiting around the structure in many different positions.

9)      The next scene is where the cog has been zoomed into and the cog spins with numbers appearing on the cog, this is from the symbols which are on the cog, the music has still not changed from the beginning but has gradually got quieter and then louder again.

10)  The symbols have made tubes with numbers on and the background has made tubes which intertwine each other, the symbols are starting to make some structure in the background. The music is still the same.

11)  The symbols zoom out to form a clock and the symbols dissolve from symbols to the real world and the clock is at 12 0’clock, the music comes to a halt when the clock dissolves from symbols to the real world.

I have learnt that for our opening scene we need to grab the audience from their seats in order to keep our audience intrested in our film and set the film up with the story so that the viewer to get a grip with the film.
